KEN WOO

Ken Woo has over 25 years of experience as a Cameraman and Director of Photography for documentaries, profiles, sports programs, live television, and film. His subjects range from the  “up close and personal” profiles of Olympic athletes to human interest stories about the common man. Ken is fascinated by unique people, places, and events from all over the world, and he captures each of them in a singular style that has garnered him great acclaim in the television and film business.

Ken has worked on a wide variety of productions in the studio and in the field, including such genres as entertainment, sports, music/variety, daytime drama, documentaries, live television and independent film. His news and sports magazine work have appeared on such programs as 60 Minutes, 48 Hours, ABC’s 20/20, NBC Dateline, HBO Real Sports, and ESPN E:60, among many others. If you ask Jill, Ken’s most exciting freelance job was among his very first, being hand-picked as one of the cameramen for Michael Jackson’s We Are The World video.  Imagine being a fly on the wall that night.

Ken Woo is most noted for his work in sports and sports related features.He has been there to capture some of the greatest moments in sports, including the Tour de France, 11 Olympic Games, the Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four, The Masters and US Open golf tournaments, Kentucky Derby, World Figure Skating Championships, and Ironman Triathlon Kona, just to name a few.

The many awards Ken has received include 15 Emmys for camera work and as Director of Photography, three being Prime Time Emmys for his work on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies in Salt Lake City, Torino, and Beijing. He has also won three Sports Emmys as Associate Producer for Best Short Feature, as well as three for Olympic productions. Most recently he was awarded a prestigious Peabody Award for his work on ESPN Films’ documentary series 30 for 30.

Ken is also an accomplished still photographer, producing stunning images from his extensive travels worldwide - including the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wall of China, the wilds of Africa, Cambodia’s Angkor Wat, the deserts of Mongolia, inside the former Soviet Union, and from virtually every corner of America. He is now, for the first time, offering his digital and 35mm photographs for sale through this site. His photos are as eclectic as the many stories depicted in his broadcast and film work and he continues to explore new directions, subjects, and places around the world. His interest in all the stories the world has to tell is so enquiring and diverse, it is safe to say that no subject can elude Ken Woo and his cameras.
